#1 Poker Site with Tournaments!

We went in a different direction for our third place pick and ended up with Bovada. The tournament selection isn’t as big here as at the other two sites but the competition is incredibly soft. You won’t find easier tournaments anywhere else. Bovada has a strong sports betting business and lots of those sports bettors join the occasional tournament for fun more than anything else.

Freezeout tournaments are hosted every day at Bovada Poker at buyins that range from $1.10 to $500. The biggest freezeout tournament at Bovada is the weekly $100,000 guaranteed and this tournament is one of the best values on the internet. Bovada Poker regularly has to add more than $20,000 to meet the guarantee, making this one of the biggest overlays on the internet.

Bovada also sends many players to big time live tournaments like the World Series of Poker. If you win a seat to any of those tournaments, you’ll be able to play for multi million dollar prize pools without having to pay the $10,000 entry fee. You’ll also get spending money and travel accommodations so that you don’t have to spend a dime of your own money. With all the easy competition at Bovada, winning a seat to the WSOP is very doable.

#2 Poker Site with Tournaments!

In a surprise upset over PokerStars, 888 Poker took the second place position in our list of the best freezeout tournament sites. 888 Poker has traditionally been considered the second-best tournament site on the Internet but they have really ramped things up in their tournament offering.

888 is an excellent option for freezeout tournaments thanks to a combination of easy competition and a variety of tournaments at all levels. There are several freezeout freeroll tournaments every day plus regular buy-in tournaments that cost anywhere from $1.00 to a few hundred. The cash prizes for some of these tournaments are tremendous thanks to the large number of participants.

On top of that, 888 has several tournament leaderboard promotions that reward players for doing well in tournaments each month. The top players on each tournament leaderboard receive special prizes and tournament entries. A $600 sign up bonus for all players helps sweeten the deal even more.

#3 Poker Site with Tournaments!

PokerStars may have slipped a little but it is still a great poker site for freezeout tournaments. With several thousand players sometimes participating, the prize pools at these tournaments are often massive. The competition here is a little tougher than at Full Tilt but there are still fishy players at all levels.

Despite slipping to second place, PokerStars still has the biggest selection of tournaments. Players can get started for as little as $1.00 and the buy-ins go up from there to more than $1000. However, we personally feel that some of the freezeout tournaments at PokerStars allow too many players to register. At the time of this writing, there were three different freezeout tournaments listed in the lobby that had more than 25,000 entrants. That’s simply too many players for a poker tournament, even if it does offer huge prizes.

Other than that, the tournament scene at PokerStars looks great. PokerStars also has a tournament leaderboard that rewards players who put in volume and those who achieve strong results. The top leaderboard players get to play in a $1,000 heads up match against a Team PokerStars pro. In addition to that, the top monthly leaderboard players get cash prizes, free tournament entries and more. It’s a great poker rewards system for freezeout tournament players.

Freezeout Poker Tournaments

Freezeout poker tournaments are the most basic and well known type of tournament. The players simply buy in, play poker and compete for their share of the prize pool. There are no rebuys, special bounties or anything else. Once the tournament begins, each player gets a chip stack and one chance to make it to the end. When a player runs out of chips, that’s the end of the tournament for that player.

Most major tournaments are played as standard freezeout tournaments. Big guaranteed tournaments such as the PokerStars Million also use freezeout rules. The same thing goes for live events such as the World Series of Poker. In fact, most of the world’s biggest poker tournaments are held as freezeout events. It definitely wouldn’t hurt to get a little freezeout practice at any of these poker sites – if you win a package to the WSOP, you’ll be glad you did.
