Art.Vandelay and PokeThese Win First Two WSOP Online Bracelets

WSOP Online Bracelet

The 2020 World Series of Poker Online is underway at WSOP.com in Nevada and New Jersey. The longest WSOP series of all-time kicked off on Wednesday and two bracelet winners have already been crowned.

Jonathan “Art.Vandelay” Dokler took down Event #1 to win the first bracelet of the series. Phil Hellmuth just missed the final table. On Thursday, an unknown player known as “PokeThese” defeated “KOVID19” for his first bracelet. Jason Somerville and Daniel Negreanu both went deep in this event.

Jonathan Dokler Wins Event #1

The 2020 WSOP Online kicked off on Wednesday with a $500 Kick-Off Event. The event drew an outstanding field of 1,715 runners, creating a total prize pool of $771,750. As the tournament went deep, all eyes were on Phil Hellmuth. The poker brat, playing under the handle of “Lumenstackin” was looking to win his record-extending 16th gold bracelet.

Unfortunately, Hellmuth just missed the final table, but he went out in dramatic fashion. He was all-in with pocket queens against the A-K of Shawn “SayGoodNight” Daniels. A king on the flop was enough to send Hellmuth to the rail.

After Hellmuth’s elimination in 11th place, two big names still remained. Tony Dunst, playing as “Panoramic” and Justin “MadTitan” Turner were both at the final table. Both players managed to make the top three with Dunst eventually falling in third place.

This set up a heads-up battle between Turner and Jonathan “Art.Vandaley” Doker. Doker had a 3:1 chip lead at the start of heads-up action and it didn’t take long to crown a champion. Turner was all-in with 10c-6s and Dokler made the call with pocket fours. Turner spiked a six on the flop, but turner picked up an open-ended straight draw. The draw filled on the turn to give him the title and his first career WSOP bracelet.

Jonathan Dokler took the first bracelet of the 2020 WSOP Online along with $130,425.75 in prize money.

PokerThese Wins Event #2

Event #2 was the $1,000 NLH Deepstack 8-Max and played to a conclusion on Thursday. The event drew a field of 919 entries for a prize pool of $873,050. During the evnet, Roland Israelashvili extended his record for most cashes in WSOP events. He finished in 101st place for his 226th career WSOP cash.

As the tournament entered the final stages, everyone was watching Daniel Negreanu and Jason Somerville. Negreanu, playing under the handle of “DNegs,” managed an 18th place finish. In his final hand, he ran pocket nines into the pocket tens of Matthew “Mendey” Mendez.

This left Somerville as the most prominent name in the field. Somerville, playing as “haderade,” made the final table. However, he would fall in sixth place. Ultimately, the event came down to a pair of unknowns, “KOVID19” and “PokeThese.”

At the start of heads-up play, PokeThese had a 3:1 chip lead, and it wasn’t long before KOVID19 shoved with Q-6. Unfortunately for him, PokeThese had pocket sixes and made the easy call. The sixes held to give PokeThese the second bracelet of the series. PokeThese won his first career WSOP bracelet along with $168,586.

The weekend will see three more NL events play to conclusion. Friday’s event is a $400 NL Hold’em Event while Saturday’s event is a $500 NL Hold’em Super Turbo. On Sunday, a $1,000 NL Hold’em Freezeout play to conclusion.

The fields for the first two bracelet events have been impressive and it will be interesting to see how many people turn out for the weekend events.
