Justin Bonomo Continues Remarkable Run at EPT Monte Carlo

The cliche that a poker player is “on a tear” is one of the most overused in professional poker. However, in the case of Justin Bonomo, it seems to be a gross understatement. No player has earned more money so far in 2018 and he has continued his winning ways at the EPT Monte Carlo.

Over the past week, Bonomo has added another million to his annual totals with cashes in all three High Roller events, including a victory in the €25k Single Day High Roller. At the rate he is cashing in 2018, he could soon challenge Daniel Negreanu and Erik Seidel for the top spots on the Poker’s All-Time Money List.

Bonomo Wins €25k Single Day High Roller

On Tuesday, Bonomo took down the €25k Single Day High Roller at the EPT Monte Carlo for his fourth live tournament victory of 2018. This was a smaller event with just 50 total entries and a prize pool of €1.2 million ($1.42 million USD.)

As is customary with these events, the final table was stacked with big-name players. Igor Kurganov, Timothy Adams, Steve O’Dwyer, Bryn Kenney and Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel all made the final table.

Seidel continues his chase of Daniel Negreanu for the top spot on the All-Time Money List and added $210k to his career totals with a third-place finish in this event.

Heads-up play was between O’Dwyer and Bonomo with Bonomo coming out on top for the €378k top prize ($453,600 USD).

Single Day High Roller Was Third Final Table of EPT Monte Carlo

Bonomo put together an impressive string of final table runs at the EPT Monte Carlo, making the final table in the €100k Super High Roller, €50k Single Day High Roller and the Single Day High Roller that he won.

Bonomo started his run with a fifth-place finish in the €100k Super High Roller, earning over €401k. Sam Greenwood won that event. Bonomo then finished fourth in the $50k Single Day High Roller, earning an additional €228k. Steve O’Dwyer took down that event.

Bonomo added $1.22 million to his 2018 earnings over the course of three events and now has $8.52 million in earnings for 2018. This is easily his best year as a live pro. His best year prior was in 2017 when he won $4.52 million.

He began his incredible streak at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) with a pair of High Roller final tables. First, he finished runner-up in the $100k Super High Roller for just over $1 million. He then finished fourth in the $25k High Roller.

Later, Bonomo took down both the Lucky Hearts Poker Open High Roller and the first event of the US Poker Open for back-to-back victories. In March, he scored the largest score of his live poker career by winning the 2018 Super High Roller Bowl China for $4.82 million.

Since 2012, Bonomo has become one of the premier High Rollers in the game. With the exception of 2014, he has won at least $1.2 million per year in events and since 2016 he’s earned a minimum of $4.2 million per year.

For his career, Bonomo has earned $26.55 million, placing him sixth on Poker’s All-Time Money List. Daniel Negreanu and Erik Seidel are the only players in poker history with more than $30 million in earnings. Negreanu has $36.5 million while Seidel trails with $34.2 million.

Dan Colman and Fedor Holz were the players expected to be the next to eclipse the $30 million mark in career earnings, but Bonomo’s run in 2018 has changed that.

If Bonomo can continue his torrid pace, there is a great chance that he could rocket past $30 million in career earnings later this year or sometime in 2019. Another year similar to this one would put him in contention to usurp Negreanu for the top spot.
