Alexandros Kolonias Poker Masters Online

The 2020 Poker Masters Online concluded on Sunday with two final events, including the $50,000 NL Hold’em Main Event. Linus Loeliger overcame a field of 77 players to take down the title and nearly $1.1 million.

However, it was Alexandros Kolonias that walked away with the Poker Masters Purple Jacket. He came into the final event of the series needing a second-place finish to take down the championship. Kolonias did one better and shipped the event for his 11th cash of the series.

Linus Loeliger Wins Main Event

The $50,000 Main Event was the first of two events to kick off on Sunday. The event drew a field of 77 players to crush the guarantee of $2 million, creating a prize pool of $3.85 million. As expected, the final table of this event was a murderer’s row of talent.

The final table consisted of David Peters, Kahle Burns, Elias Talvitie, Steve O’Dwyer, Linus Loeliger, Ole Schemion, and Giuseppe Iadisernia. Ultimately, it was Loeliger facing Iadisernia for the title. Loeliger had a sizable chip lead to start heads-up play, but Iadisernia managed a double up to make it interesting.

In the final hand, the flop fell 6c-3d-3s and a raising war started between the players. Eventually, Iadisernia shoved with pocket fours and Loeliger snap-called with 9d-6d for top two pair. The turn and river missed both players and Loeliger took down the Main Event. He won $1.09 million for the victory.

Alexandros Kolonias Wins Poker Masters Purple Jacket

As organizers had hoped, the race for the Poker Masters Purple Jacket came down to the final event of the series. Heading into the final table of the $10k NL Six-Max, Artur Matirosian was leading and the only player with a shot of catching him was Alexandros Kolonias. However, Matirosian also made the final table. However, he was knocked out in fifth, leaving the door open for Kolonias.

Just one catch, Kolonias had to make it to heads-up play to take the jacket. However, it seemed that Kolonias was destined to win the jacket as he started building chips and by the time he reached three-handed play, he held a massive chip lead.

When Mark Demirjian fell in third, this put Jason Mcconnon in the unenviable task of trying to make to overthrow a massive chip leader. In the final hand of the event, Mcconnon got his chips in good but he got unlucky. He shoved with Ks-9s and was called by the Kc-7s of Kolonias.

However, Kolonias spiked a seven on the flop to take the lead and that seven held to give him the hand, the title, and the Poker Masters Purple Jacket. The win gave him $367,782 in prize money. This was his 11th cash of the series, giving him $1.26 million in earnings for the series.

Kolonias Comes Out In Close Championship Race

With his victory in the closing event, Alexandros Kolonias edged out Artur Martirosian to take the Poker Masters Purple Jacket. He tied Timothy Adams for most cashes in the series and was third in prize money won.

After winning the final event, Kolonias told Poker Central, “It feels amazing, I really wanted to win this. It means a lot to me winning the Purple Jacket.” He continued, “I was really enjoying playing the Poker Masters Online events. They were great events and partypoker once more proves why it’s the No. 1 poker site.”

He later told Poker Central, “I am very proud of this win because I think I played the best poker I have ever played and the competition was really tough. The Purple Jacket is an important title and it feels about the same as winning the WSOP Europe Main Event last year, but that time I had some tears when I won, I was more emotional. I want to thank everyone that supported me, and partypoker Poker Central, PokerGO and everyone else that helped to organize these events.”

Poker Masters Online proved wildly successful, awarding over $35.4 million in prize money. While live poker events are great for television, this series proved that an online version of this series can also prove popular. It will be interesting to see what organizers decide to do next year, assuming the COVID-19 pandemic is passed.
