Alex Foxen Among Winners on Day 1 of Poker Masters Online

Alex Foxen - Poker Masters Online

The 2020 Poker Master was moved online to partypoker due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That event kicked off on Sunday with the first three events playing to a conclusion.

Among the winners on Sunday was Alex Foxen. He took down Event #3, the $10k NL Hold’em Event. Elias Talvitie and Tobias Ziegler also won events.

Elias Talvitie Wins Opening Event

The 2020 Poker Masters Online kicked off on Sunday with a $25k NL Hold’em Event. It had a guarantee of $1 million and easily met it. 55 players showed up to create a prize pool of $1.37 million. The final seven players were paid and the majority of the final table was easily recognizable by the poker world.

Juan Pardo Dominguez was the first out in the money, earning $65,312. Chris Hunichen was next out, earning $79,062 for sixth place. Aussie Michael Addamo was knocked out in fifth, earning $96,250. Canada’s Sam Greenwood then fell in fourth, earning $123,750.

Ole Schemion was the third-place finisher, earning $206,250. This setup head-up play between Sergi Reixach and Elias Talvitie. The lesser-known Talvitie was able to come out on top, earning $481,250. Reixach had to settle for runner-up and $323,175.

Tabias Zeigler Wins $10k PLO

The second event of the Poker Masters Online was the first PL Omaha event of the series. The $10k PLO drew 55 players, just beating the $500,000 guarantee. The final nine were paid with the UK’s Sam Trickett just squeaking into the payouts, effectively doubling his money.

The final two players in this event were a well-known pair in James Akenhead and Tobias Ziegler. Both are experienced PLO players and in the end, it was the German Ziegler coming out on top to win $190,249.

Alex Foxen Wins First $25k Event of Series

Event #3 saw the first $25k Event of the series int he $25k NL Hold’em Six-Max. The event had a $250,000 guarantee but smashed it as 99 players showed up. This created a prize pool of $990,000.

The final 12 players were paid in this event and it was a Who’s Who of the poker world. Falling shy of the final table were Elio Fox, Justin Bonomo, and Juan Pardo Dominguez. Meanwhile, Super High Roller Bowl crusher Timothy Adams made the final table along with Adrian Mateos, Alex Foxen, and Ali Imsirovic.

Ultimately, it was Wiktor Malinowski facing Alex Foxen for the title. One might normally expect a deal in this spot with there being a significant difference in first and second place prize money. However, Foxen is an online wizard and didn’t deal. He went on to take down the title along with the $309,677 top prize.

Multiple Events to Play Out Daily

As was the case on the first day of play, the Poker Masters Online will continue to have multiple events play out daily. There are 30 events on the schedule and those events will play out from now until April 26. The majority of events are NL Hold’em with a few PL Omaha events sprinkled in. Buy-ins for most events are $10,000 with seven events featuring a $25,000 buy-in.

The $50,000 Main Event will kick off on April 26th and feature a guarantee of $2 million. Players have the option for a single re-entry. Like other Poker Masters events, players finishing in the money earn points towards the Poker Master Purple Jacket. The eventual winner will also receive a $50,000 top prize.

Thanks to the event being moved over to partypoker, overall attendance will be up for many events and we will see a few winners we would not normally see. Normally, players would have to travel to Las Vegas for the event, but partypoker is opening this event up to high rollers and high roller wannabes around the world.
