Patrik Antonius is known for his insane prowess at high stakes cash games rather than for his tournament play. However, he has managed to put together a respectable resume over the years.

On Saturday, Antonius managed to add to that resume after taking down the €25k High Roller event at the partypoker MILLIONS at King’s Casino Rozvadov. The victory is his first open-field tournament victory since taking down the EPT Baden Main Event in 2005.

Patrik Antonius is known by most of the poker world for his insane win rate in high stakes cash games, especially those at the pre-Black Friday version of Full Tilt Poker. His appearances in tournaments were few and far between, but when he did play, he can compete with the best in the world.

He proved that fact yet again on Saturday when he managed to take down the €25k High Roller event at partypoker Millions Germany. The event drew a small but elite field of 23 players and there were 14 re-entries for a total of 37 entries.

The event drew a prize pool of $988,800 with $520k going to the winner. While much of the high stakes world has been in Las Vegas at the US Poker Open recently, a number of world-class players ended up playing in this event.

The final table was stacked with top pros, including four German players. Dominik Nitsche, Dietrich Fast, Stefan Schillhabel and Renato Nowak all represented Germany. Steve O’Dwyer was the sole US participant at the final table with Joao Simoa rounding out the group.

This event was supposed to finish on Sunday but the pace of play allowed the event to conclude Saturday night. In the end, it was Joao Simao and Patrik Antonius battling for the top prize.

Simao started the match with a 3:1 chip lead but Antonius came storming back and within 15 minutes had taken the chip lead. After nearly taking his own massive lead, Simao was coolered int he final hand to end the match.

On a board of Ad-Jh-3s-10c-Kd, Simao shoved with pocket kings and second nut set. Unfortunately for him, Antonius was holding Qd-Jc for Broadway and took down the pot and the title.

Victory is Antonius’ First Open-Field Win Since 2005

Amazingly, this victory is the first time Patrik Antonius has taken down a live open-field event in almost 13 years. The last time he was in the winner’s circle was 2005 when he won EPT Baden Main Event.

Antonius has had other victories since then, but all were closed-field events such as Poker After Dark, The Poker Lounge, and the Caesars Cup.

That’s not to say he hasn’t enjoyed success in tournaments. In 2012, he netted the largest live score of his career after finishing 2nd in the $250k Challenge at Aussie Millions for $1.23 million.

Saturday’s win was his first six-figure score since 2014 when he finished 5th in the $100k Challenge at Aussie Millions for $626,937.

With the partypoker Millions High Roller win, Antonius now has approximately $7.3 million in career tournament earnings. That’s good enough to put him atop Finland’s All-Time Money List. Of course, with the sheer volume of high roller events, he’s far down on the overall money list, presently 106th.
