Loeser, Pollak, and Kempe Win Events to Close EPT Monte Carlo

The EPT Monte Carlo is in the books and three big names managed to take down events to close out the series. Manig Loeser won the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event for €603,777 and his first EPT title.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Pollak took down the €25k EPT High Roller for over €705k while Rainer Kempe won a side €25k High Roller for €400,850.

Manig Loeser Wins EPT Monte Carlo Main Event

The final day of the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event played out on Saturday with two big names taking their shot at an EPT title. Manig Loeser and 2013 WSOP Main Event Champion Ryan Riess both made the final table and were looking for their first EPT title.

Riess fell well short of his goal, ultimately finishing fourth. The final three players were Loeser, Wei Huang, and Viktor Katzenberger. Once play reached three-handed, the trip decided to chop the prize pool. Huang was the chip leader and got €552,056 while Katzenberger got €529,707, and Loeser got €525,716. The three agreed to play for the trophy and €78,061 up top.

Katzenberger fell in third, leaving Huang and Loeser to play for the title. Huang put up a nice fight and took the chip lead for a bit, but he was unable to build enough momentum to win the title. After regaining the chip lead, the heads-up match ended in a flash.

On the turn with the board showing Jd-9c-5s-10c, Loeser bet 1.4 million and Huang shoved. Loeser called and showed Qh-8h for a straight and Huang had an open-ended draw. The river fell the Ad and Loeser earned his first EPT title. Loeser finished with €676,890 in prize money and the championship trophy.

Benjamin Pollak Wins €25k EPT High Roller

Benjamin Pollak earned the third-largest score of his live poker career over the weekend after taking down the $25k EPT Monte Carlo High Roller. The three-day event drew 142 entries and Sergio Aido came into the final day as the chip leader. Aido won the €100k High Roller earlier in the series for over €1.58 million and looked to add to that total.

Standing in his way was a strong field that included Michael Addamo, Koray Aldemir, Benjamin Pollak, and Daniel Dvoress. Aido couldn’t find enough “run good” to take down the title, ultimately falling in sixth place and earning €188,980.

Eventually, the final table played down to Koray Aldemir and Benjamin Pollack for the title. The final two players struck a deal and pocketed €655,840 each and played for the last €50k and the trophy.

After the deal was struck, it wasn’t long before a winner was crowned. In the final hand, Aldemir raised all-in on a Kh-6h-4h flop and Pollak made the call. Aldemir showed Ks-10c for top pair while Pollak showed 9h-9d for a smaller pair and a flush draw. The turn missed both players, but the river spiked the 9h to give Pollack a flush and the title.

Pollack earned €705,840 and the PokerStars spade trophy for the win.

Rainer Kempe Wins Side €25k High Roller at EPT Monte Carlo

A third big name to take down a high roller event over the weekend was Rainer Kempe. He took down one of the side €25k High Rollers at the EPT Monte Carlo, outlasting a field of 53 entries. The final table of this event, like most high rollers, was stacked. Seth Davies, Steve O’Dwyer, Andre Akkari, David Peters and Joao Simoa were all among the players that joined Kempe at the final.

In the end, it was Kempe against Simao heads-up with Kempe holding the chip lead. He quickly extended that lead to more than 5:1. Ultimately, Simao shoved with Jc-5s and Kempe called with Ac-6h. A six on the turn was enough to give Kempe the hand, and the title.

Simao walked away with €289,500 while Kempe earned €400,850 for his latest win.
