David Peters Wins Poker Masters Main Event – Ali Imsirovic Wins Purple Jacket

The 2018 Poker Masters is officially in the books with the Main Event concluding on Saturday. David Peters won his second event of the Poker Masters by taking the Main Event along with the $1.15 million top prize. Also, Ali Imsirovic officially locked up the Poker Masters Purple Jacket just prior to the final table when Brandon Adams busted in seventh place.

David Peters Wins Poker Masters Main Event

On Saturday, the Poker Masters Main Event played out as the final four returned to take their shot at the $1.1 million top prize. Since only four players were paid, the event played down to four on Friday night.

Late in the event, the only player still with a chance to overtake Ali Imsirovic for the Purple Jacket was Brandon Adam. However, he only managed a seventh-place finish, which left him well short of what he needed to win. As such, the Purple Jacket was locked up and the remaining six were just playing for the money.

Stephen Chidwick and Christoph Vogelsang technically made the final table of six, but since only four were paid, nobody cares. Vogelsang was ultimately the final table bubble boys, leaving Dan Smith, David Peters, Koray Aldemir, and Bryn Kenney left to battle for the title.

David Peters was in a dominating chip position at the start of the final table but Dan Smith managed to pull nearly even with him before the final four was reached. The top two in chips at the start of the final table were also the ones that battled heads-up for the title.

At the start of heads-up play, Smith held a mere 140k chip lead over Peters and the pair decided that they would play 15-minute levels for the rest of the event. While not announced live, Smith admitted that he and Peters chopped:

While the pair played it out, ultimately it was David Peters that came out on top for the “official” payday of $1.1 million. If the pair did an even chop, they both walked away with roughly $925k each, before paying any cuts to investors or backers.

Following the win, Peters told Poker Central, “I’m very happy to win this one, I’ve had a great series, and maybe I’ll get the jacket next year.”

Peters officially finished a mere 10 points behind Ali Imsirovic for the Purple Jacket. He spoke about that as well, stating,
“Ali deserved to win, he had a great series. It would’ve been nice to win the jacket, the bragging rights and rubbing it in other player’s faces by wearing it to events.”

Ali Imsirovic Wins Poker Masters Purple Jacket

Like Peters, Ali Imsirovic won a pair of events in the Poker Masters, but the points he picked up in the opening event when he finished in either were just enough to squeak out the win for the Purple Jacket. With three cashes, two wins, and $1.28 million in earnings during the Poker Masters, he officially took the Purple Jacket on Saturday.

Speaking to Poker Central about the win, he stated, “There are very few things that can compare to this. This win is very prestigious for me because this event series has all the top players in the world. I know the WSOP Main Event is seen as more prestigious, but in that event, you need to get very lucky across nine days battling against a below average field. In these fields, you constantly have to play your best because otherwise, you’re just going to get destroyed.”

His two wins were the two largest scores of his live poker career and will serve as an official launching point for his high stakes career. Of his future in high rollers, he stated, “There are still plenty of guys I think are much better than I am, so I got a lot of work to do. I just ran better than they did but I’m looking forward to the challenge I’ll play more with these guys and feature high rollers and just trying to improve and get to their level.”

The 2018 Poker Masters produced a lot of great stories, including a pair of two-event winners that ultimately finished 1-2 for the Purple Jacket. This series in just two years has established itself as one of the premier events and one that we expect to see enjoy growth over the next couple of years.
