2018 WSOP Europe Update – Colossus Final Set and Deeb Second in Chips in Six-Max

The 2018 World Series of Poker Europe is in full swing and the first final table has been set. Event #1, the €550 Colossus has played down to the unofficial final table of 10 and will award the first bracelet of the series on Monday. Meanwhile, Shaun Deeb is looking to wrap up WSOP Player of the Year in the €1,600 NL Six-Max. He will enter Day 2 play second in chips with just 39 players left in the field.

Colossus Down to 10 Players

The €550 Colossus has been underway for much of the past week and has now played down to the final table. Over eight starting flights, the event drew a monster crowd of 2,992 players, creating a prize pool of €1.43 million. The final 296 players in the event returned to King’s Casino on Sunday to play down to the unofficial final table of 10.

A few notables made it deep into this event, but fell short of the final table on Sunday. Six-time WSOP bracelet winner Chris Ferguson managed a 150th place run in the event while Allen Kessler fell short in 52nd place. Ultimately, the event played down to the final table of nine with two players nearly neck and neck for the chip lead.

Wojciech Wyrebski will head into the final day of play with 11.87 million while Hannes Neurater will start second with 11.82 million. Dariusz Glinski, the Day 1A chip leader, will start third in chips.

The official final table in this event is nine, so one player will technically fall short of the final table. Tenth will only award €13.410 while the eventual winner will receive €203,820 and the first WSOP gold bracelet of this series. Unfortunately, there are no really big names at this final, so odds are the final will largely go unnoticed but the remaining players looking forward to making a massive profit on a meager €550 entry.

Shaun Deeb Second in Chips Heading into Day 2 of €1,650 Six-Max

The second event of the WSOP Europe kicked off on Sunday with the €1,650 Six-Max. It drew a solid field of 221 entries and by the end of the day there are several players still in contention for the title. Among the players returning for Day 2 are Cord Garcia, Maria Lampropulos, Rex Clickscales, Chris Ferguson, Michael Soyza, and Shaun Deeb.

Deeb is presently the frontrunner for WSOP Player of the Year and unless he has a monumental collapse at the start of the day on Monday, he will add to his point total. He is presently second in chips with just 39 players remaining. Five people will have to be eliminated on Monday to reach the money with the remaining players receiving at least €2,371.

The top prize for this event is only €82,280, but the winner also receives a WSOP bracelet. Should Deeb manage to take down the title, he would earn his fifth WSOP bracelet but also lock up Player of the Year. A final table run in the event will probably also accomplish the same goal.

Prior to the WSOP-E, Deeb stated that chasing POY was not profitable, but leaderboard titles are something that he strives for. Poker players have to have motivation and winning WSOP Player of the Year is definitely a motivating goal, even if it doesn’t come with any form of monetary incentive. However, seeing your banner hang in the Rio for years to come is certainly an accomplishment to cherish.

In addition to the two events listed above, the third event of the series kicks off on Monday. The €550 PLO 8-Handed event commences on Monday and should draw a large crowd. It is the first of three events featuring Omaha.
