WSOP Adds 17 New Events to Schedule Including Freezeout Series

WSOP

The World Series of Poker is continuing to piecemeal the schedule for the 2020 WSOP. On Thursday, WSOP officials announced 17 new events for the upcoming summer poker series. The events are predominately NL Hold’em with eight of them freezeout events.

Part of this group of new events is the Freezeout Series, a group of NL Hold’em events with buy-ins between $500 and $5,000.

17 New Events Listed on 2020 WSOP Schedule

For those looking forward to the 2020 World Series of Poker, we have more events to announce. On Thursday, a schedule of 17 new poker tournaments was released with buy-ins ranging from $500 all the way to $250,000.

The new events released include a $1,500 Mystery Bounty NL Hold’em Event on June 28th. There will be $1 million in bounty guarantees during the event. A total of 100 mystery bounties will be spread throughout the field with bounties ranging from $2,500 all the way to a max bounty of $250,000.

Another new event that will draw interest is the $250,000 High Roller. This will be the first time that an event will be offered at this pricing point. The event will feature a single re-entry and players will start with 1.5 million in chips.

One key addition is the $25,000 Heads-Up NL Hold’em Event. This will replace the $10,000 Heads-Up Event and will feature a capped field of 64 players.

Fourteen of 17 events added will be NL Hold’em Events. The other three will be a $2,500 Nine-Game Mix, a $5,000 Mixed NL Hold’em / PL Omaha Event, and a $50,000 PLO High Roller.

Over 40 Freezeout Events on the WSOP Schedule

Part of the schedule released on Thursday includes what the WSOP is calling their “Freezeout Series.” The Freezeout Series is six new freezeout events with buy-ins ranging from $500 to $5,000. Events that are part of the Freezeout Series will have Freezeout as part of the event title. For example, the June 4 event at 11 am is a $1,500 Freezeout NL Hold’em Event.

Including the events in the Freezeout Series, there will be over 40 events during the 2020 World Series of Poker using the freezeout format. These events are in response to players demanding single buy-in events.

You may remember that Daniel Negreanu stated he would quit playing re-entry events and then later retracted that statement. Influencers like Negreanu likely persuaded WSOP officials to add additional freezeouts.

Of the new list of events, WSOP VP Jack Effel stated, New events are always a result of player input and we’re thankful to have received many great suggestions this year. The 2020 WSOP is chock-full of new events, new price points and a little mystery sure to resonate with poker players everywhere. We can’t wait to open our doors in four short months to get things started.”
