Timur Margolin Becomes Fifth Dual WSOP Bracelet Winner of 2018

Israel is on fire at the 2018 World Series of Poker Europe. After winning the first two bracelet events of the series, Israeli Timur Margolin has become the fifth player in 2018 to win two bracelets after taking down Event #5, the €1,100 MONSTER STACK. He joins Shaun Deeb, Hahn Tran, Joe Cada, and Justin Bonomo as multi-bracelet winners in 2018.

MONSTER STACK Draws Strong Field – Ferguson Has Six Cashes in Series

The €1,100 MONSTER STACK event kicked off last Thursday and had three starting flights to create a field of 666 entries, creating a prize pool of €639,027. The top 100 players made the money in this event with notables such as Anatoly Filatov, Maria Lampropulos, and Rex Clinkscales all making the money. WSOP bracelet winners Jeff Madsen, Jorg Peisert, and Chris Ferguson all made the money but fell short of the final table.

This cash was Ferguson’s fourth in five events at the 2018 WSOP Europe. Since cashing in this event he also made the money in Event #6 and 7. His cashes have allowed him to vault up to 14th on the 2018 WSOP POY Leaderboard (as of this writing.) Of course, he is still over 2,300 points behind Shaun Deeb for the lead and at this point it looks like nobody will catch him.

Timur Margolin Wins Second Bracelet of 2018 – Myhailo Gutyi Finishes Sixth

The final table of this event played out on Monday with two bracelet winners making the final. Timur Margolin of Israel and Mykhailo Gutyi of the Ukraine came into the final looking to win their second bracelet of 2018.

Gutyi took down Event #4 of the WSOP-E while Margolin won Event #43 of the 2018 WSOP in Las Vegas. At the start of the final table, Margolin was the short stack while Gutyi started second in chips.

Soon after Mario Llapi fell in ninth place, Margolin doubled through Gutyi and that spelled a reversal of fortune for both players. Margolin soon took the chip lead while Gutyi continued to slide. Eventually, he was all-in with top pair but Sebastian Ulrich turned a straight to send Gutyi to the rail to collect €20,974.

By the time that heads-up play was reached between Margolin and Raul Villarroel, Margolin held over an 8:1 chip lead. Villarroel managed a quick double, but Margolin began chipping away at his stack. Eventually, Villarroel shoved with J-9 but ran into pocket sevens. The sevens held and Margolin became the fifth dual-bracelet winner of 2018.

In addition, Margolin becomes the third Israeli to win a bracelet at the 2018 WSOP Europe. After winning the bracelet, Margolin told PokerNews, “I was sitting at home watching the live stream and seeing what the boys were doing so I said I have to come to King’s Casino. This was the first tournament I played here and managed to bink it.” Margolin won €134,407 in addition to his second career WSOP bracelet.

Two more events are presently underway. The €1,650 Mixed PLO/NL Hold’em Event is at the final table and will play to a winner on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the €2,200 PLO 8-Handed is playing down to the final table. The next new event will kick off on Wednesday with the €25,500 NL Hold’em Super High Roller Event.

Unless someone shows up to challenge him in the final events, it appears that Shaun Deeb has all but locked up WSOP Player of the Year. He cashed in the €2,200 PLO 8-Handed Event and made the final table of the €1,650 Mixed Event. These cashes will probably be enough to lock up the title regardless of where he finishes.
