Schindler and Foxen Lead POY Races – Bicknell Leads GPI Female POY

Alex Foxen and Kristin Bicknell Sweep POY titles.

With just a little over a month left in 2018, we have a better idea of who will take down the two major Player of the Year races in live poker. Jake Schindler has built quite a big lead in the CardPlayer Player of the Year race, now with more than a 600 point lead over Stephen Chidwick.

Meanwhile, Alex Foxen has rocketed up the Global Poker Index rankings in 2018 and presently sits in the top spot. He has also jumped into the lead in GPI 2018 Player of the Year race, holding a 73.7 point lead over Justin Bonomo. Also, Foxen’s girlfriend Kristen Bicknell holds both the top spot for the women’s GPI rankings and for the 2018 GPI Female Player of the Year. She has more than a 600 point lead over Maria Lampropulos.

Jake Schindler Leads Chidwick and Bonomo in CardPlayer POY Race

Realistically, there are only two players with any shot at winning the CardPlayer Player of the Year race with about a month left to play in 2018. Jake Schindler leads all players with 8,647 points. In second place is Stephen Chidwick with 8,045 points.

The only other players with over 7,000 points presently are Justin Bonomo with 7,752 points and David Peters with 7,197 points. However, unless someone plays a lot of smaller events and goes on a hot streak similar to what David Peters did a couple of years ago, the race appears to be down to just two men.

Everything may ride on the upcoming Super High Roller Bowl V in Las Vegas in December. Chidwick and Schindler are likely to play but it may take a win by Chidwick to have a realistic shot of winning the title.

Schindler’s run at the 2018 Poker Masters and in Aria High Roller events in October and November is what put him into this massive lead. Justin Bonomo and Stephen Chidwick had been battling for the POY title for much of the year but after the 2018 WSOP both players have somewhat cooled down.

Alex Foxen Leads GPI POY 2018

Another race that has changed dramatically over the last couple of months it the GPI POY 2018 race. Alex Foxen has been on quite the run since the start of the summer and has now taken over the top spot on both the GPI 300 and for the GPI POY 2018.

Foxen now has 3,836.72 points, a 73.7 point lead over Justin Bonomo who has 3,763.02 points. Stephen Chidwick and David Peters trail with 3,691.67 and 3,677.32 points respectively.

Due to the nature of the way that GPI awards points, a deep run in the Super High Roller Bowl by any of these players could give them enough points to overtake Foxen. However, odds are that one of the players will have to win the event outright to take the title from Foxen.

This race could literally play down to the end as it is unlikely that Foxen will put up $300,000 to play in the Super High Roller Bowl V and those chasing him are all capable of making a deep run, especially Justin Bonomo who won the 2018 Super High Roller Bowl China and the Super High Roller Bowl in Las Vegas.

Kristin Bicknell Likely 2018 GPI Female Player of the Year

The only POY race that we can say is pretty much a lock at this point is the GPI Female Player of the Year. Kristen Bicknell has a 610.81 point lead over Maria Lampropulos with about a month to play. Lampropulos would have to go on a monster run, and probably win a decent sized event in order to have any type of chance of winning. This will be Bicknell’s second straight GPI Female POY title.

Bicknell is presently the top-ranked female player on GPI, presently 19th overall. Lampropulos is #2 on the women’s ranking, presently 87th overall. Bicknell has enjoyed a solid 2018, including runner-up finishes in the Venetian MSPT Main Event and a win in a WPT Bellagio preliminary event. She also won an APPT Macau preliminary event this year. She is presently dating pro Alex Foxen and the pair have been dominating together for a good part of 2018.
