Sam Greenwood Wins Third High Roller Event in a Month at EPT Monte Carlo

So what did you do in April? Did you get starting on Spring cleaning? Maybe you did some yard work. Did any of you happen to win $3.28 million in High Roller Events? No? That’s because you’re not Sam Greenwood.

Sam Greenwood won more money in April 2018 alone than he has in any other year as a professional poker player. He won three High Roller tournaments, including the recent EPT Monte Carlo €100,000 Super High Roller that netted him a combined $3.28 million.

So far in 2018, Greenwood has won $4.21 million and is easily enjoying his best year as a live pro.

Greenwood Wins EPT Monte Carlo Super High Roller

On Saturday, Sam Greenwood won the EPT Monte Carlo €100,000 Super High Roller for his third High Roller win this month. The event drew a solid field of 46 entries to create a total prize pool of €4.46 million ($5.44 million USD).

Like any event of this caliber, the final table of this event was stacked. Isaac Haxton, Ole Schemion, Justin Bonomo and Christoph Vogelsang all joined Greenwood at the final table.

Isaac Haxton has been making a ton of final tables this year, but outside of the Super high Roller Bowl China and APPT Macau HK$ 200k High Roller, he has usually been one of the first players eliminated. That continued on Saturday as he was the first out in sixth place. Amazingly, he only walked away realizing a small profit despite earning over $381k. He bought into the event three times, essentially breaking even for the event.

Justin Bonomo continues his torrid pace in 2018, but failed to take down this event, finishing in 5th. He earned over $488k for his finish, giving him over $7.78 million in earnings so far this year.

Ultimately it came down to Christoph Vogelsang against Sam Greenwood for the title. Greenwood started the match with the chip lead, but Vogelsang came back and actually ran a 4:1 lead of his own at one point.

However, a pair of double ups for Greenwood including an aces over deuces double put him comfortably into the chip lead. In the final hand, Greenwood prevailed when his K-J outran the A-5 of Vogelsang.

Greenwood walked away with the title and a cool $1.85 million. This is the single largest score of his live tournament career.

Greenwood Pushes Past $11 Million in Live Earnings

To say that Sam Greenwood has enjoyed an epic month is an understatement. He opened the month taking down the partypoker MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona €50k Super High Roller to earn $1.22 million.

Afterward, he took down the WPT Amsterdam High Roller to earn another $155k. His most recent win gave him another $1.85 million to push his monthly totals over $3.28 million.

His recent victory pushed him over $11.22 million in live tournament earnings, good for 50th on Poker’s All-Time Money List. He’s presently 5th on the Canadian All-Time List.

Greenwood is in the middle of a career year in live poker. He opened the year with three final tables at the PCA, including a 7th place finish in the $100k Super High Roller. Afterward, he went to Aussie Millions and took down the $50k Challenge and went deep in two smaller side events.

In March, Greenwood finished third in the HK$ 400k Super High Roller at the APPT Macau, good for $449k. Tack on the earnings he’s enjoyed in April and Greenwood has over $4.21 million in live earnings for 2018.

Greenwood’s previous career year came in 2017 when he won $2.4 million. He’s averaged $2 million in earnings each year since 2015. Prior to that, his best year was in 2013 when he earned what now seems a paltry $212k.

With the Super High Roller Bowl in Las Vegas around the corner and multiple High Roller events at the Aria and the 2018 World Series of Poker, Greenwood is poised to continue his High Roller dominance and continue padding what has already been an epic year for the Canadian pro.
