Kenney and Bonomo Win Final High Rollers of EPT Monte Carlo

The EPT Monte Carlo has wrapped, but not before two big names added victories to their impressive resumes. Bryn Kenney didn’t have the best run at the EPT Monte Carlo but managed to break even for the trip after managing to take down the €10k High Roller.

Also, after already final tabling three events and taking down a €25k High Roller title, Justin Bonomo managed to win his second €25k High Roller of the series, giving him over €1.2 million in earnings for the trip.

Bryn Kenney Wins EPT Monte Carlo €10K High Roller

Bryn Kenney came into the final High Roller event of the EPT Monte Carlo looking to try and salvage his trip. After whiffing on the €50k and the €100k, he needed to do well in the €10k to salvage his trip. Lucky for him, he managed to take down the event and snag €153k (~$186k USD) in the process.

The €10k High Roller drew a field of 60 entries, paying seven players and creating a top prize of €153,000. The final table produced several name pros, including Nick Petrangelo, Mustapha Kanit and Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel.

Seidel nursed a short stack for quite a while at the final and managed to ladder his way up to third place, earning €70,300 ($84,360).

Ultimately, it was Mustapha Kanit against Bryn Kenney for the title. Ultimately, Kanit fell when Kenney’s K-Q outdrew the A-3 of Kanit. Kanit earned €110k ($132k USD) for his runner-up finish.

Despite earning €153,000 for the win, the trip was “a break-even trip” according to Kenney. He failed to cash in the €
50k and $100k events as well as whiffing a few others. He did cash in a pair of €25k High Roller events for another €153k, essentially treading water for the event.

However, Kenney is not doing too poorly so far in 2018. He has $2.96 million in live earnings thus far. Of course, that’s nowhere near the $8.5 million he took down in 2017.

Justin Bonomo Wins ANOTHER High Roller Event

Remember a couple of days ago when Justin Bonomo took down a €25k High Roller? Well, now you can change that two a pair of €25k titles. On Thursday, Bonomo managed to take down the final €25k High Roller of the EPT Monte Carlo, this time topping a field of 50 entries to earn €259,700.

This time around, only five players managed to make the money with Orpen Kisacikoglu, Timothy Adams, Adrian Mateos and Ramin Hajiyev all cashing. With three players left, it appeared that Bonomo would fall short of another victory.

However, a big three-way all-in saw Bonomo more than double-up against Adrian Mateos and Ramin Hajiyev. Shortly afterward, he knocked out Mateos when his A-10 outran the K-J of Mateos.

This left Bonomo facing Hajiyev for the title. Bonomo then knocked down Hajiyev to just 10 big blinds before the Azerbaijan native shoved with K-4. Bonomo made the easy call with Ad-8d and that hand held up to give him his second win of the week.

With this victory, Bonomo moves past $8.8 million in earnings in 2018, well ahead of all other players on the annual money list. The win also allowed Bonomo to leapfrog Fedor Holz on Poker’s All-Time Money List.

At the present pace of play, Bonomo could move into the top four and possibly even the top three later this year. He is less than $3.3 million from becoming the third player in history to win more than $30 million in live tournaments. At this point, it is more a question of when rather than if he will crack the $30 million in career earnings mark.
