Poker Hall of Famer John Juanda has done it all in poker and on Wednesday, he incorrectly folded quads at the final table of the Triton Poker Super High Roller Montenegro HK$ 250,000 Short Deck NL Hold’em. Normally, this would be a momentum-killing fold, but Juanda managed to rebound and take down this second career Triton title.

Juanda Survives Turbulent Day to Win Shot Deck Title

Event #6 of the Triton Poker Montenegro series was an HK$ 250,000 Short Deck NL Hold’em Event. The two-day event drew a field of 65 entries to create a prize pool of $1.94 million USD. Just eleven players were left at the end of Day 1 with several big names in contention.

Only eight players were paid in this event and it was Danny Tang that was the unfortunate bubble boy, running K-Q into the A-J of Sergey Lebedev. Paul Phua was the final table bubble boy, finishing in eighth place. The final table of this event was stacked with top talent, including Dan Cates, Michael Soyza, Peter Jetten, Dan Dvoress, and Poker Hall of Famer John Juanda.

Soyza was the first player out at the final table, soon followed by Dan Cates after back to back coolers. He lost most of his stack when his sixes-full lost to the tens-full of Peter Jetten. He later had pocket aces cracked by the pocket jacks of Wai Kin Yong.

It was soon after that John Juanda made his major blunder, but it was understandable. On a board of Ah-Ad-6d-Ac-6c, Sergey Lebedev bet about 25% pot. Looking like a “call me bet,” Juanda made the fold with pocket sixes, basically folding quads. Lebedev had K-J for complete air.

Despite this massive bluff, Lebedev only managed a fifth-place finish. He ran Q-J into the A-Q of Peter Jetten. Lebedev left with $162,500 and the story of a lifetime. Jetten then ended up giving his chips to Juanda when Juanda’s A-K ended up outdrawing Jetten’s Q-10 on the river.

Wai Kin Yong ended up finishing in third place after running Kd-Qd into pocket kings for Juanda. This left Juanda and Daniel Dvoress heads-up for the title. Stacks were about even at the start but it was a big misstep by Dvoress in the final hand that cost him the title.

Dvoress was dealt Ad-Ac and raised pre-flop and Juanda called with Qd-Jd. The flop fell Kd-10d-8d and Juanda check-called a 500k bet from Dvoress. The turn fell the Kc and action was checked around. On the river 8c, Juanda checked and Dvoress bet 1.5 million. Juanda then shoved all-in

Dvoress smelled that something was up and ended up spending all his time-bank chips before finally making the call. Juanda then showed the second nut flush and Dvoress discovered he was eliminated. Dvoress earned $410,800 USD while Juanda ended up winning $613,600 and the title.

Juanda Over $1 Million in Earnings in 2019

John Juanda has enjoyed a solid 2019 at Triton Poker events. He has two final tables and an eighth-place finish to give him $1.15 million in earnings so far this year. This is a stark contrast to 2018 where only managed $211k in earnings.

With his recent victory, Juanda now has two Triton Poker titles and career earnings of $25.24 million. He’s ranked as high as fifth on Poker’s All-Time Money List but has steadily dropped as pros like Justin Bonomo have racked up high roller scores. Juanda is presently 14th on the list, but his recent victory proves he still has what it takes to compete at the highest levels of the game.
