Fox, Catz, Imsirovic, and Eskandiari Among Recent High Roller Winners

There are so many “High Roller” tournaments going on around the world nowadays that it’s next to impossible to keep track of them all. Recently, several high roller events in Las Vegas flew completely under the radar despite awarding over $600,000 in prize money.

The March Aria High Roller events concluded without a ton of fanfare with one surprise winner. Bellagio held a pair of High Rollers and the GPA Breakout Player of the Year managed to take down one of the events.

Meanwhile, Elio Fox has won another high roller title. This time, he successfully defended his title in the $50,000 Super High Roller at the 2019 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown. This time around, he won $440,000.

Katz, Soverel, and Eskandani Take Down Aria High Rollers

The first three Aria High Roller events of 2019 took place from March 21 through 23, but most totally missed that they took place. The first of the three events was a $10k NL High Roller and a surprise name came out on top.

Poker PROductions head and Poker Hall of Famer Mori Eskandani defeated Ali Imsirovic heads-up to win the top prize of $128,000. Eskandani is more known for his media ventures but is an experienced player. This is his first major poker win in quite some time.

The second Aria High Roller was a $25k NL event and was taken down by Poker Central head honcho Cary Katz. He defeated David Peters heads-up for the $192,500 top prize.

Katz also made heads-up of the third event, another $25k High Roller. This time, he fell to Sam Soverel who won the $210,000 top prize.

Davies and Imsirovic Win Bellagio High Rollers

The Bellagio in Las Vegas held a pair of $10k High Rollers last weekend with Seth Davies and Team Foxen performing well in both. In the first event, Seth Davies managed to take down the first place prize of $105,800. Alex Foxen finished fourth in the event for $23,000.

A couple of days later, Foxen’s girlfriend and 2018 GPI Female Player of the Year Kristen Bicknell made it heads-up against the Global Poker Awards Breakout Player of the Year Ali Imsirovic. Imsirovic came out on top of the event, earning $105,000. Also, Seth Davies managed a third-place finish in this event.

The Aria High Roller Events and Bellagio High Rollers both count towards the High Roller of the Year Standings. Presently, Sean Winter leads all players with 690 points. David Peters is second with 655 points and Cary Katz is third with 595 points. Ali Imsirovic cracked the Top 5 with his performances, now sitting with 490 points.

Elio Fox Goes Back-to-Back at SHRP Showdown $50k

While Elio Fox didn’t win Breakout Player of the Year for last year, he certainly had a breakout campaign in high roller events. One of the events he won was the 2018 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown $50k High Roller Event for $500,000.

This year, the event drew 20 entries and Fox faced a tough final that included Alex Foxen, Sam Soverel, and Ali Imsirovic. Yes, there’s a lot of the same people making high roller final tables lately.

Ultimately, it was Fox facing Soverel heads-up for the title and in the final hand, his K-Q outdrew Soverel’s pocket fives to take the title and $440,000. Fox told reporters afterward that it was great to win the event and that, “It’s always wonderful to start out a trip doing well – makes it easier the rest of the way.”

This was Fox’s first six-figure score of 2019 and it put him over $8 million in career tournament earnings. Last year, Fox earned a career-best $4.27 million and established himself as a contender on the high roller circuit.
