Brian Green Wins $10k Super Turbo at 2019 World Series of Poker

2020 WSOP

The 2019 World Series of Poker is underway and the first two bracelets have been awarded. Daniel Negreanu promised an epic summer and made things interesting in the $10k Turbo, but he fell just short of the bracelet.

Every year, the WSOP opens with the Employees Event and often it is a largely forgettable event. This year, a couple of notables have made the final table with representatives from both PokerNews and the WSOP making the final table.

Brian Green Wins $10K Super Turbo – Defeats Both Negreanu and Imsirovic

The first open event of the 2019 WSOP concluded on Thursday as the final table of the $10k Super Turbo Bounty played out. Not surprisingly, this event had a stacked final table that included poker hall of famer and four-time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu.

Also joining him at the final table was three-time bracelet winner Loren Klein and high rolling sensation Ali Imsirovic. Negreanu came into the 2019 WSOP focused and determined to win WSOP Player of the Year and he earned a huge chunk of points toward that goal by making the final table.

However, his run at the final table was short lived. He came in as one of the shorter stacks but fell in sixth place. He put his chips in good with A-10 but Loren Klein managed to outdraw him with Q-J.

Loren Klein made headlines last year by wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat at the final table and he did so again this year. However, he didn’t have the same results as he fell in fourth place. In this final hand, he was all-in with A-9 against the A-Q of Asher Conniff. A queen on the flop was enough to send Klein to the rail.

Conniff soon hit the rail in third place when is his A-9 was outdrawn by the K-Q of Brian Green. This left Green and Ali Imsirovic heads-up for the title. At the start of heads-up play, Green had more than a 2:1 chip lead and moved it to about 3:1 before Imsirovic managed to find a huge double to pull the stack about even.

Imsirovic looked to have the momentum and in the final hand of the tournament, he looked poised to double again to all but win the bracelet. However, the poker gods had other plans. Green moved all-in pre-flop for 6.2 million with A-9 and Imsirovic made the easy call for 6.1 million with pocket kings.

A nine hit the flop to give Green a pair and extra outs to win. The turn fell the 4h and it seemed that Imsirovic was going to double his way to a lock on the bracelet. However, the river fell the 9c to give Green trip nines and his first career WSOP bracelet.

Imsirovic managed to walk away with $213,664 for second, but he most certainly would have loved to win the bracelet. That honor went to Brian Green who took the first bracelet of 2019 along with the $345,669 top prize.

Nicholas Haynes Wins Employees Event

The first event of the World Series of Poker is always the Employees Event or the “champion whom we will forget about a week from now” event. This year, there were two notables at the final table in PokerNews Live Reporter Adam Lamers and WSOP Media Relations Manager Isaac Hanson.

Of the two, Hanson managed to make it heads-up in the event against ARIA poker dealer Nicholas Haynes. Hanson took the chip lead into heads-up play but couldn’t manage to take down the bracelet. In the end, Haynes was able to come back and take down the Casino Employees bracelet and $62,345 in prize money.
