Mizrachi and Bechtel Among Biggest Stories So Far

There are a ton of big stories at any WSOP but some stand out from others. Jim Bechtel had largely been considered a one-hit wonder due to his only bracelet coming at the 1993 WSOP Main Event. While he had other final tables, he had never won another bracelet. That was until June 11th when he took down the $10k NL 2-7 Lowball Championship.

His win allowed Bechtel to set a record for longest span between bracelet victories. Bechtel took 26 years to win his second WSOP bracelet. Bechtel doesn’t play poker often anymore, but he proved in this event that he can still compete at the highest levels.

Speaking of competing at the highest levels, Michael Mizrachi continued his dominance in at the WSOP with his fifth bracelet win of the decade in the $1,500 Stud 8 or Better. He defeated Robert Gray heads-up for the title for his fifth career bracelet. Mizrachi is best known for winning the $50,000 Poker Player’s Championship three times.

Other stories of note include Scott Clements winning his third career bracelet after winning the $1,500 Dealers Choice Event. Frankie O’Dell set the record for most Omaha Hi-Lo bracelets won after taking down the $10k Omaha Hi-Lo Championship for his third career bracelet and third bracelet in that discipline. Of course, you can’t forget about Eli Elezra who won his fourth career WSOP bracelet in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Event. He defeated Anthony Zinno heads-up for the title.

The WSOP barrels on with the $1,000 Double Stack NL Hold’em being this weekend’s monster-sized event. Of course, there’s still a lot of poker to play with a schedule of 89 events on tap.
