Bicknell and Foxen Sweep APPT High Rollers

Move over Jason and Natasha Mercier. There’s a new power couple in poker. Kristen Bicknell and Alex Foxen went on a tear at the APPT Macau and swept both High Roller events. Bicknell took down the HK$ 80,000 High Roller and Foxen took down the HK $400,000 Super High Roller. The pair netted a total of $1.1 million over the two events.

Kristin Bicknell Becomes First Female APPT High Roller Champion

Kristin Bicknell took down the HK $80,000 APPT Macau High Roller on Saturday to become the tour’s first-ever female High Roller champion. She defeated a field of 117 entries and fought off a challenge from streaking David Peters.

The partypoker sponsored pro has been doing well in recent months. She won a preliminary event at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic in December and cashed five times at Aussie Millions earlier this year.

Her victory in the High Roller netted her HK$ 2.19 million ($279,549) for the second largest score of her live tournament career. Bicknell’s largest career win was her bracelet victory in the Ladies Championship at the 2013 World Series of Poker.

Bicknell told PokerNews.com, “What drives me is definitely competition, I’m just always trying to get better as a player. “I want to do well to represent women in poker, and that drives me a lot. It kind of motivates me to compete with all the guys. And showing that, you know, women are welcome in this industry, I think is a big step; the more women that play and do well it should hopefully turn things around.”

With her victory, she now has $1.53 million in live earnings. This puts her 20th on the Women’s All-Time Money List.

Alex Foxen Wins APPT Super High Roller

Alex Foxen has been having a nice month in poker. Last month, he won the LA Poker Classic $25,000 High Roller for $424,625 and followed that up with his second largest cash ever at the APPT Macau.

Foxen defeated a field of 49 entrants on Monday to win the HK$ 400,000 APPT Super High Roller for HK$ 7.56 million ($963.,880 USD) after outlasting a stacked final table that included Sam Greenwood, Rainer Kempe, Patrik Antonius, Brian Rast, Christoph Vogelsang and Isaac Haxton.

Heads-up play in the event was Foxen battling Shan Huang for the title. Huang started heads-up play with the chip lead, but Foxen quickly took control along with the chip lead. Eventually, a short stacked Huang was all-in with K-Q and Foxen’s A-6 was good enough to take down the title.

Foxen’s win gave him his second largest career score. His largest score came back in December at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic. He finished runner-up to Ryan Tosoc to earn $1.13 million.

With his victory, he now has $3.64 million in earnings. This gave Foxen and girlfriend Bicknell a sweep of the APPT High Rollers and soundly has established them as the new “power couple” in poker.

It will be interesting to see what the pair can accomplish, especially this year considering that both seem to be presently streaking.
