2020 WCOOP Kicks Off August 30th on PokerStars

PokerStars WCOOP 2020

Online poker’s largest annual poker series will return later this month. PokerStars announced on Monday that the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) will return on August 30th and run through September 23rd.

This year’s series will feature 75 events and will award $80 million in guarantees. Also, the series will award ‘Slam Packages’ that will award entries into the 2021 SCOOP, WCOOP, and Stadium Series Main Events.

WCOOP Returns August 30th

The news hit on Monday regarding the PokerStars WCOOP. This year’s premier poker event will run August 30th through September 23rd at PokerStars. It will feature 75 events and will award $80 million in guarantees.

According to the press release, PokerStars will award at least $200 million in prizes to poker tournament players during the month of September. That includes all PokerStars events, not just WCOOP events.

According to Severin Rasset, Commercial Officer at PokerStars, “WCOOP is a prestigious staple in the poker calendar and this year we are excited to bring players our biggest WCOOP ever, as well as adding extra excitement and value into the mix.

We want to give players of all levels the opportunity to become a champion, so there will be lots of ways to get in on the action. Plus we’re particularly excited about setting poker fans up for the coming year with our new Slam Packages.”

Here are some highlights from the PokerStars WCOOP Schedule

  • All tournaments feature Low, Medium, and High buy-ins.
  • Buy-ins range from $2.20 to $25,000.
  • The $55, $530, $5,200 freezeout Main Events on Sept 20 will guarantee $1.25 M, $2 M, and $10 M, respectively.
  • Players can battle for Player of the Series accolades. There will be champions for Low, Medium, High, and an Overall champion.
  • At least 5 Main Event H seats will be awarded each day through WCOOP Fast Track until September 20. Players can earn a seat using the four-step qualification route beginning at $1 or they can buy into a higher step.
  • Spin & Go’s awarding WCOOP Main Event seats will be available from $4.
  • PokerStars School will have giveaways awarding WCOOP tickets.
  • Qualifiers for all events will be available starting at $1.

2021 Slam Packages and WCOOP Sweepstakes Also Available

PokerStars will hold two special promotions new to this year’s WCOOP. The first will be the 2021 Slam Packages. Winners of WCOOP ‘Sunday Slam’ events will also receive a 2021 Slam Package. The package will give an entry into the Main Event High for the 2021 SCOOP, WCOOP, and Stadium Series.

The other is the WCOOP Sweepstakes. To participate, just play in WCOOP events. You’ll get an entry for playing and the higher the buy-ins you play, the more entries you get. At least three $5,200 Main Event entries will be awarded to players every day along with other entry tickets.

One thing to note about this year’s schedule is that there will be no WCOOP events on Fridays. PokerStars is doing this to give players some downtime, especially those competing in the WCOOP Player of the Series race.

Will WCOOP Benefit from WSOP Online Lead-In?

The timing for the 2020 WCOOP could not be better. As you know, the 2020 WSOP Online is hitting the home stretch with the Main Event just kicking off on Sunday. The final few events will be played out concurrently during the same time as the first few days of the WCOOP.

While on different sites, we would not be surprised to see PokerStars receive a bit of a bump in traffic as players decide to try their hand at PokerStars after trying to win bracelet on GGPoker. Poker players that traveled to a legal locality to play GGPoker’s WSOP Online could just extend their stay by a couple of weeks to try and win a WCOOP bracelet.
