DragtheBar.com Review

DragTheBar.com is a relatively new poker training site that has quickly made a name in the poker training market. It was started in 2009 by several successful high stakes poker professionals, including Dusty “Leatherass” Schmidt. The aim of DragTheBar.com is to provide an education to all poker players through the use of skilled poker coaches, videos, forums and strategy articles.

Shorthanded no-limit Hold'em is the main focus here, but DragTheBar.com provides content for tournaments, SNGs, fixed limit, and full ring games. Interestingly, they also have a section of strategy devoted to backgammon. So although the focus is on NLHE cash games, DragTheBar.com is still a well rounded training site.

What You Get

The first thing you get at DragTheBar.com is a seven-day free trial. Sign up for an account, try the member’s area out, and then make your decision after you’ve had a week to look it over and weigh your options. No matter how serious you are about poker, the free trial is worth checking out. Here’s a quick summary of membership benefits:

  • Poker strategy videos (400+)
  • Poker strategy articles
  • Professional poker player blogs
  • Busy discussion forum
  • Poker knowledge quizzes

As a full member of DragTheBar.com, you’ll be given access to more than 400 poker strategy videos that are produced by some of today’s biggest winners in various forms of poker. One new video is released every day, and the full video library can be sorted by game type, number of players, stakes and coaches.

Many of the videos at DragTheBar.com are produced in a series format that is designed to teach a specific lesson. Each video also comes with a quiz that tests your knowledge of the content that was covered in the video. This combination of videos, quizzes and specific lesson plans make DragtheBar.com stand out as a powerful education system.

DragTheBar.com Instructors

DragTheBar.com has managed to attract some of the biggest winners in online poker to come and produce strategy content for its members. The cool thing about the instructors here is that they still actually play poker and post their results for all members to see. You can look up any pro’s current record at any time and find out both their recent results and their lifetime results.

The coaches at DragTheBar.com all contribute regularly to the site. Each coach is responsible for producing videos, writing strategy articles and participating in the discussion forums. The community feels very close-knit and the coaches are readily accessible.

The full coach lineup includes:

DragTheBar.com Strengths

DragTheBar has a strong lineup of highly successful poker coaches. Several of the coaches have won more than a million dollars playing online poker games and are capable of moving your game up to new levels. These coaches are easy to reach and they produce thought-provoking content regularly.

The training material in the member’s area is very high quality. Not only do the videos impart specific lessons, but they are all professionally produced. These videos are not just shots of some guy recording his screen during a random session; each video is designed to teach a specific lesson. The videos are all downloadable and work on iPods.

DragTheBar.com Weaknesses

DragTheBar.com is still a somewhat new poker training site, so their training library is limited compared to some of the old timers in the industry. With more than 400 videos to choose from, it’s not exactly dead here, though. It also helps that at least one new video is released every day.

The second weakness of DragTheBar.com is also related to its newness as a training site. We haven’t seen them in action for very long, so it’s hard to justify purchasing a year long membership right now. The future looks great for this poker training site, but it’s hard to justify purchasing a discounted 1-year membership at this point in time.
