In this three-part series I will take a look at three up and coming poker players you should keep your eye on in 2011. If you haven’t heard of these three players, trust me, by the end of 2011 you most certainly will! These players are the next group of young talent like 2010’s Tome Marchese, Faraz Jaka, and Vanessa Selbst.

The final player to watch from this trio is Chicago native Mohsin Charania:

Mohsin Charania

If you’re having trouble pronouncing Mohsin’s name don’t worry, I expect by mid-2011 the entire poker world will be familiar with the man who goes by the name of ChicagoCards1 at the online poker tables.

Charania finished 2010 number 36th in the Card Player Magazine Online Player of the Year race, booking an impressive $942,138 in tournament earnings (for his career Charania has won in the neighborhood of $2.1 million in online poker tournaments). But we were already aware of chicagocards1’s online poker abilities, and it was his success on the live tournament trail that landed him on my players to watch list!

In 2009 and 2010 Charania was able to win $180k in live tournaments both years –$186,190 in 2009 and $188,950 in 2010, which tells me he has been consistent, but just hasn’t had that one breakthrough performance.

Mohsin finished up the 2010 tournament campaign with two final tables, one in October and one in November, both at televised tournaments. In October Charania finished 6th in the WPT Foxwoods Worlds Poker Finals, and he followed this up with a 4th place finish in the PokerStars NAPT Bounty Shootout in Los Angeles.

Charania has made a whopping six deep runs in WPT events over the past two years, and cashed at the World Series of Poker six times as well. Basically, all signs point toward Charania winning a major tournament in the not too distant future.

Charania was a part of the “poker House” a group of young poker players who developed their skills together, and included Faraz “The Toilet” Jaka, Ravi “govshark2” Raghaven, and Andy “BKiCe” Seth among others, so when it comes to understanding poker on the highest level you can be certain that nothing is going to get by Chicagocards1!

So there you have it, the three players to keep your eyes on in 2011: Melanie Weisner, William Reynolds, and Mohsin Charania.
