After forgetting about last week’s Weekly Poker roundup, I was able to get myself together to make this one happen.
This week’s Roundup includes Party Poker’s Five Stars Poker Challenge, EPT Prague, the latest season of High Stakes Poker, and an update on the Bellagio robbery.
Let’s get into it…
- Party Poker is running their Five Stars Poker Challenge again this December, which provides daily $5,000 freerolls to players who earn five Party Poker points that day. There is also a $50,000 freeroll at the end of the month for players who qualify for at least five of the $5,000 freerolls. [PokerNewsBoy]
- EPT Prague officially drew 564 players from 47 different countries over two starting days on Monday and Tuesday. A total of 254 players made it through Days 1a and 1b, and the €5,300 tournament runs through December 18th. [Poker Listings]
- The much-discussed online poker bill has been dealt a potential death blow, as Senator Harry Reid has pulled his $1.1 trillion Federal spending bill from the slate (this bill included the online poker legalization bill). [Las Vegas Sun]
- Following the news that PokerStars.com will sponsor the seventh season of High Stakes Poker (and that Full Tilt players will now be restricted from participating), the schedule for the season is starting to come together. [OnlinePoker.net]
- An armed robbery went down at the Bellagio this week, with the perpetrator getting away with over $1.5 million in casino chips. Bellagio employees are on the lookout for anyone trying to cash large denomination chips. [PokerNewsBoy]
- In related news, the Bellagio robber may have been the same man who robbed the Suncoast casino poker room earlier in the year (getting away with around $20,000 in cash). Both robberies were conducted in the same style. [Telegraph.co.uk]
- The Durrrr Challenge II resumed this week, as Tom “Durrrr” Dwan won almost $65,000 from Jungleman12 in a wild session that, at one point, saw Dwan up almost $300,000. [Bluff Magazine]
- Betfair Poker has obviously struggled since its move to the Ongame network, and their latest released figures confirmed that poker revenues have plummeted. [GamblingOnlineMagazine.com]
- The first $150,000 SuperStar Showdown at PokerStars.com with Isildur1 will be played against Isaac Haxton. [OnlinePoker.net]
That’s it for this week, make sure to check back next week for the latest Weekly Roundup. Also, feel free to leave comments below if we missed any interesting articles from the week.
