It was a bit of a slow week in the online poker news world as everyone was gearing up for the WSOP Main Event November Nine, but in this week’s BestPokerSites.org weekly roundup we take a look at a shootout at a live, illegal high stakes poker game, a new poker film starring Brad Pitt, a preview of this year’s WSOP Main Event final table, and a unique story about an online poker player who is also a CPA. Let’s get into it…
- The WPT Foxwoods World Poker Finals finally wrapped up on Wednesday, and PokerNewsDaily reports that Jeff Forrest took down first place and the accompanying $548,000 prize after a brief, ten-hand heads up battle with Dave Inselberg.
- PokerNews.com launched a new series today with their “PokerNews Podcast”. The first podcast is a preview of the November Nine by Matthew Parvis, Donnie Peters, Eric Ramsey, and Mickey Doft. I gave this one a listen and it is definitely worth your time.
- Cake Poker made headlines by launching their new “Exchange” program, which allows players to swap their Gold Cards in an open market. Since each Gold Card is worth a different amount, especially depending on what other Gold Cards you hold, this Exchange is really exciting most Cake players.
- Microsoft has announced their latest online game show for Xbox 360: Full House Poker. The game will allow players to play poker versus other players over Xbox Live’s online gaming network, and to earn chips to boost their bankroll and climb the online leader boards.
- Bloomberg did an interesting piece about an online poker player who is also a CPA and handles taxes for several major online poker pros including Chris Moneymaker and John Dolan (a member of this year’s November Nine).
- Police in Greensville, South Carolina faced a deadly situation this week while raiding an illegal home poker game. A 72-year old member of the illegal high-stakes game fired a bullet through one of the officer’s arms, which resulted in counter-fire from the police. Fortunately, no one was killed.
- OnlinePoker.org reports that Brad Pitt may be featured in a new Andrew Dominik poker film titled Cogan’s Trade. Poker players around the world are highly anticipating this new movie, as recent gambling movies have, for the most part, been a disappointment.
