The winner of the last EPT tournament, Vladimir “Beyne” Geshkenbein, who took down the PokerStars EPT Snowfest in Vienna, Austria, and the winner of the most recent WPT tournament, Roberto Romanello, who won the WPT Bratislava, both find themselves within striking distance of chip-leader Sander Berndsen heading into Day 2 of the PokerStars EPT Berlin Main Event. Of course, there is still a lot of poker still be played in Berlin!

In lieu of the armed robbery that occurred at last year’s Berlin tournament The EPT, and host Spielbank Casino, decided to move the EPT Berlin from the Grand Hyatt to the Spielbank Casino, even though the casino itself will have a harder time accommodating the hundreds of players.

In all, 773 players entered the €5,000 buy-in Main Event, generating a total prize-pool of over €3.8 million. Even though this is well off of last year’s totals –915 players and $4.75 million in total prize-money—the tournament is still one of the largest on the EPT tour.

Here are the top 10 combined chip counts from Day 1a and Day 1b of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Berlin Main Event:

  1. Sander Berndsen — 242,900
  2. Oleg Elkin — 210,000
  3. Cristian Dragomir — 205,500
  4. Jochanan Robert Flink — 203,400
  5. Alek Samardzic — 200,200
  6. Mayu Roca Uribe — 190,000
  7. Max Heinzelmann — 186,400
  8. Aurelien Guiglini — 182,600
  9. Vladimir Geshkenbein — 181,500
  10. Ben Wilinofsky — 180,500

Here is a look at some of the other notable players who made it through to Day 2 of the tournament, albeit with slightly fewer chips than the above players: Sebastien Ruthenberg, Johannes Strassmann, Joep van den Bijgaart, Tomer Berda, Peter Eastgate, Jan Heitmann, Kevin Vandersmissen, Pieter de Korver, Max Pescatori, Hans Vogl, Cornel Cimpan, Matt Affleck, Sandra Naujuks, Fatima Moreira de Melo, Toni Judet, George Danzer, Marcin Horecki, Toby Lewis, Pierre Neuville, Jeff Sarwer, Michael Tureniec, and Juha Helpi.

A number of top players fell short on Day 1a and 1b, including Chris Moorman, Tony G, Liv Boeree, James Akenhead, Praz Bansi, JP Kelley, Annette Obrestad, Scott Montgomery, ElkY, Boris Becker, Luca Pagano, Kevin MacPhee, Jake Cody, Johnny Lodden, and Dario Minieri.

Day 2 will kick off at noon local time on Thursday as the remaining 353 players battle it out to first reach the money –the Top 120 finishers will cash in the Main Event—and then on to the final table and possibly an EPT title.
